Homeschooling Perk #1: Snow Day!

Wednesday, December 22nd 2010 @ 1:07 AM

We got an inch or two of snow yesterday here in the Boston area—nothing special, except that it was the very first snowfall of the winter. School wouldn't be cancelled for it… but, hey, we're not in school!

So this morning, it was on with the snowpants and boots and out the door to play. Out of a thin blanket of snow, our kids made an hour or more of good, clean fun, and then came in to sip hot cocoa and put their feet on the radiator.

They did a bit of learning, too, of course. There's plenty of time for that in the mix of a whole day's activities. But today was the first day of winter, the first day to throw snowballs and make snow angels and even an igloo, and as homeschoolers, we get to enjoy a snow day whenever the mood and weather strike.

To everyone who lives in colder climates, I hope you are all enjoying the first taste of winter, too!
