Around-the-House Hebrew Word Labels

Wednesday, February 8th 2012 @ 1:44 AM

PLEASE NOTE: An error in this document was corrected on 2/13/12. If you previously downloaded this file, please download it again and reprint page 1.

(This is a free, downloadable curriculum resource created by Yael Resnick of Room613.)

Try this fun way to learn a lot of Hebrew vocabulary! Sixty Hebrew words, representing a wide variety of things found around the house, are clearly typeset (with vowels) on business-size cards. Each card also includes the English translation in small type.

The PDF file is set up to print easily on standard 10-up business card paper. You can also print it on regular paper or card stock and cut out the cards. Laminating the cards would help them last longer but is not essential.

Usage Notes:

Label objects all around your house with the cards (or better yet, let your kids do this). Some cards will need to be placed near the object rather than attached directly to it; for example, you can hang the card for "boots" near where your family keeps their boots.

You can hang the cards all at once or start with some and add more over time. Some words are very basic and others are more challenging, so see what works for your family.

You can print a second set to use as flashcards that you keep in a convenient place, so you can test each other on how much you know.

Note: If you want the cards to print using black ink only, choose grayscale on your computer. Otherwise they will print in a nice, relaxing shade of dark green. Smile

Thanks, Yael!  What do you use for Hebrew typing?

It's a font called Raanana. I just set my keyboard preference to Hebrew and type in a regular word processor (I have Pages for Mac), using a template designed for business cards.

It does take a while to master typing in Hebrew with vowels, dageshim, etc. I keep a Hebrew chart next to me with the keyboard layout. At this point I can type pretty fast!

Hope these cards are fun and helpful for you!
